Thread: I need some help

I've been playing minecraft for several months now.
Today, a new update released "1.8.x". It autoupdated and when I opened it, I could make new things such as birch doors etc.
But when I opened it on the old version all items are removed. I had a lot of iron and some gold. Everything is gone. I tried to open it with the new version, but still, nothing is there.
How can I restore my items? or If I can't, then I need a mod hack to get the items I had at least..
